Built for the day you don't trust yourself.
Blockers alone fail — you installed them, you can remove them. Willpower alone fails at 2am. What holds is a commitment with a witness.
Breakaway started from a simple observation: people who get free of gambling almost never do it with an app alone. They do it when someone they can't easily lie to is standing next to the decision. The software's job isn't to be clever — it's to make that arrangement unbreakable on the nights it matters and invisible the rest of the time.
So Breakaway is less a blocker than an accountability system. The block is table stakes; the product is the pause before a slip, the streak that makes the good days visible, and the buddy who holds the key you asked them to hold.
What we believe
Shame doesn't keep anyone safe. Every hard moment is met with your streak, your reasons, and a breath — never a red screen shouting at you.
Your buddy sees that the wall is holding, requests for access, and heads-ups after hard moments. Never your browsing, never a list of sites.
A lock you can undo alone isn't a lock. Commitments loosen only with your buddy's okay, through timed windows that close themselves.
No AI coach, no badges, no mood journal, no meditation timer. The wall, the streak, and your people — the things that actually hold.
Where it's going
Breakaway runs on macOS today, with the iPhone app in progress. It's built deliberately and small — every feature has to earn its place by making a hard night easier, or it doesn't ship.
